As it becomes more challenging (not impossible) to find good value for money in El Cabanyal, it’s only normal that the neighbouring barrios would start attracting interest. To the north, you have the Malvarrosa neighbourhood, which can be a bit rough and ready, but location-wise it has some terrific value for anybody looking for beachside investment. But I’ll leave the Malvarrosa for another day; today, we are heading south of Cabanyal and just across the tram tracks to El Grau, where today’s property is located.. . Like Cabanyal, El Grau was originally an independent fishing village separated from Valencia. Then it became the neighbourhood where the port workers lived and slowly joined up with the rest of the city. These days it is seeing a big revival in fortunes after years of being ignored, with much of the neighbourhood falling into disrepair. The old market is now a soon-to-be-open modern gourmet market with dining areas, open-air concerts, and other cultural activities. There is also the first craft beer brewery and tap-room within the city limits that opens its doors in September (Keep an eye out for our upcoming blog post on craft beer bars in Valencia. It should be out once we finish our, ahem, “research”). Add in new hotels, open spaces with playgrounds, green areas and plenty of bars and restaurants to the mix, and you have a get-in-before-it’s-too-late situation appearing before you.. . The apartment is located on a street that dissects both El Grau and El Cabanyal, a 5-minute walk from the sea and with plenty of public transport options on your doorstep to get you into the city centre or directly out to the airport when needed. A massive-sized apartment for the area and the bonus of a parking garage (don’t drive? Rent it out for some passive income), maybe a balcony would have been nice, but you know what? You’ll be spending most of your time on a terrace with your favourite tipple anyway, won’t you?
